but unfortunetly we need subgenres
to just say “punk” instead of “despise you and iron lung and dystopia” would be so much easier and less embarassing and avoid situations like “any songs i might know by them?”
too bad it doesn’t work and the standard reply is “like green day?” and then you just have to sigh and leave it and say “not really but whatever” and then quickly change the subject
I used to say what genres or bands i was listening to at the moment but that seemed alienating and pretentious. I’m gonna start using the fallback of, “Oh all sorts of things, but I don’t think anything you’ve heard of..” if they might not have heard of the stuff
I say “I listen to garbage” or “I listen to industrial” and that ends the conversation.
I explain to people in a calm fashion what I listen to specifically and they understand instantly every time and then we have nice and insightful conversations about music and give each other good recommendations and swap last.fm and RYM profiles.
Legacy was pretty good and had some nice dark footwork tracks, but Deeper Than Trax really came together as an album. I should write for RA.
